We grow tired

Somewhere along the journey
The rainbows lose their wonder
Playgrounds swapped for emails
Chasing birds swapped
for chasing the Twitter tick
We grow tired

Tub of Lego, once an afternoon of fun
Now something else to tidy
Pot of slime
Not a fascination
But a hazard to interior fabrics
We grow tired

A field of green
Not a sprawling adventure
But a hayfever haven
An outing is an expense
Rather than a pleasure
We grow tired

When does this happen?
This gradual slip
From gazelle to sloth
From summer to grey
We no longer play
We grow tired
