The truth behind sepia-tinted memories

The photograph is now so faded
that it no longer holds your bold essence.
But is it better to remember you
in soft shades of sepia instead?

Not knowing what to do
you sometimes made mistakes
and later regretted the things you said
and did.

You were always in the doghouse.

My memories of you are no longer in black and white
They are worn out around the edges,
singed by the heat of my mind and soul.

Romanticizing your presence in my life, I wonder
is this what I have been reduced to?
     Holding onto nostalgic memories
     filled with beautiful lies
     dressed in sepia?
