The Horses of Hades

They are always
hardest to harness
when the time comes
to fetch Persephone.
Abaster is the worst;
the other three
will settle,
once they realise
it is night Above,
but Abaster hates Above,
hates the night,
and, most of all,
hates the stars,
knowing he will never
emulate Pegasus.
Wild-eyed and rimed
with sweat, he backs
until there is nowhere
left to run.
