Sunshine

Sixteen-year-old Tom brushed the rake against the hay while the horses whinnied. A dedicated stable boy, he came to work on time every summer morning, and it wasn’t for the joy of cleaning the horses manure. Sunshine gave him a reason. A beautiful thoroughbred stallion, with big brown eyes and a black bushy mane, became Tom’s true friend. He talked with him and petted his soft hair, as he leaned back and neighed, showing off his big teeth. Tom small and quiet, was bullied at school and had very few friends. The friends he did have went to camp in the summer, but camp wasn’t for Tom. He enjoyed animals, having two Shih-Tzu’s and a cat at home. Animals were his true friends, but there had been something about Sunshine that made it special.

Tom knew that when he spoke to Sunshine and he stared at him with his big brown eyes, he truly listened.
