Stowaway

In the darkest dark
the coldest cold,
though cast aside,
and left for lost,
I snuck aboard—the boldest bold.
Through stormy storms
and treacherous tides
sailed round the Horn
at the shy girl’s knee
(though I was near, she couldn’t see).
In wind, rain, fog,
and sweltering sun,
sat guard at the helm
til the voyage was done.
