Still She Sings
Once upon a time,
she sang behind bars,
a charming trinket,
prized possession
of the giant in the castle
Until one day,
another opened the door,
let her fly to untold heights
to sing her own song
Bereft and jealous,
the giant,
- who was really a small man -
chased her down
and crafted a new cage
from bombs and blood and fear
It hovers, just above,
dropping
day
by
day,
a Damoclean blade,
casting her world
in shades of death
and still she sings
