  • Chapter 07

The rain passed and sister plays the music
The space between the notes
Like breaths
A l i v e
My hands are too small & I don't yet know how.

I wear the clothes that once she wore
Loose, then fitting, then too tight
In just one springtime.

She walks with me to the river
The current running past our bare ankles
Curling our toes around the smooth stones.

I'll take you with me
She tells me
I don't know what she means
I look up at her
Always up
And she tells me
Wait another springtime.
