Shielding

It hangs and tempts
not moving
whispering possibility.
I shrink back
letting the comfort zone cuddle me.
It's safe here, they say.
I know the contours
and nestle into cushions
where adventures and tragedies
flicker by on screens.
And I am still.
But
if I were to dream
I'd snatch the key
unlock the door
and, shield abandoned
step into the world
of other people.
Make a story of my own.
Break this isolation
with a whoop.
