Shaping Clay

It turns on central axis as hands shape earthenware.
Wheel becomes circle, then mirror as reflections

echo rotations. Here, a potter displays bowls,
jars, vases, where vessels were formed, spun,

created from clay—as if the Lord God, Hippolyta,
or Prometheus worked their miracles, sculpted

life into existence as Earth rotated about its axis,
tilted, produced seasons, revolved around sun,

interacted with moon where gravity stirred oceans,
commanded tides, as if power and gentleness

rose from otherworldly architects, whispered zest
into human vessels, into hearts—the embodiment
of love.
