Roots

I come from a place where the sun dances
with intense heat
I come from a land of diverse tongue and tribe
and green filled earth
I come from the streets and corners that reek of desperation and sting like salt water on the eyes
This is the place I come from

beyond the shores of my home I know of no other
my children's children shall sit and listen to folklore passed down to me from my mother's mother
and I shall sit to tell the tales of how I overcame

someday our sun will rise again
in its resplendent glory
someday we shall thrive again
as giants in the land
