Rented Apartment

The face on the wall upsets you
More than the place, more than the blue
walls or the fading curtains, more
than the taste of others on your pillowcase.

The face.

Is it the eye, I wonder, that stays
with you or the triangular nose --
the base quite one with the lip,
or the scar or the one-eyed gaze?

Why the face?

Does it trace you my dear,
does it take your scream as part
of its scream? Your face
as part of its face?
