Presumptuous Deity

The Beast poked his head
through the clouds.
‘Up here!’ he cried.
‘I have made a pact with God
to bear witness,
for The Lord hath observed your misery!’

‘OUR WHAT?’
questioned a solitary whale
bounding playfully in the waves.
‘I ONLY SPEAK FOR MYSELF BUT
I HAVE JOY IN MY HEART’

‘AND ME!’
came a voice from behind an island.

‘NOW LOOK!’
protested the whale.
‘YOU’VE SPOILT OUR GAME
OF HIDE AND SEEK!’
