Outside the shutters…

It’s a goose fair morning.
Untimely autumn air tinges
brittle sunlight apple green,
sends it falling through leaves
that ripple in the breeze.

On this side of the shutters,
day stirs mouse-grey,
sleepy-eyed and musty.
Slatted rays and dust motes play
tag with zoetropic birds
soughing their first words
outside the shutters.
