On the beach

the sun has climbed higher
into the blasted biosphere,
eradicated clouds
until the elastic sky is almost sheer
and seems about to tear.

She’s a bikini clad exclamation mark
suspended in tumbled caramel sand.
Black insect-eyed
sunglasses leave imprints on her face;
she simmers, teasing a tide
of green wavering lace,
with just a hint of blue –

or is it tempting her to dive,
escape the radioactive sunset?
