Numberless

look at you, bright and unexpected
as a clementine in a winter tree

you could be anyone or nothing
you could be an octopus, deft

and unfindable on the pebbly
ocean bed, you could be the

one who got away or the one
who came to stay, you could be

wild as bees or mild as a summer
lawn late when the stars are

looking for you, the permutations
are numberless, numberless as

the galaxies and you are your
own whirling spiral yes you are
