  • Chapter 05

My Long-Armed Man

I wish I knew
to draw
comfort
from your
outstretched hand.
I wish
I knew
how to
stretch it
further.
How to
elongate
extend
the tips
of your fingers
smell your
last cigarette
make your hand
my spine.
stand erect.
I wish they ran
from town
to town
like those lines
on aeroplane screens
from mine
to yours.

My Long-Armed Man

I wish
I knew
to stick it
to my palm
or swallow it.
Undigested,
grow it a tree
between my ribs.
I wish
I knew
how to
tie them
around me.
A hug
in a knot.
A knot
in a hug.
A knotted hug
a hugging knot.
I wish
I knew
how to
stretch you
a lil’ more
or move
just a step
closer to you.
