Fetching

When they fitted her new dentures,
she never in her wildest dreams imagined
that spring would bloom again.

Flashing a smile became
a regular occurrence on her daily walk -
no more pursed lips and cast-down eyes.

Nobody could be more surprised
as the puckered person they’d once seen
bounded with budding twigs between

dazzling teeth, clicking like castanets
with a cha-cha-cha rhythm and a sway of her hips,
possessed by the demons between her lips.
