Curtain Call

It came at night when the light was off
the moon was the backdrop it flew by
I held my breath and focused my eyes
as the curtains merged with the sky.

Lithe, long and with the head of a man
it moved through the flowers around it
the curtains swayed as it slithered up
my bedroom transformed and moon lit

In awe I watched its body corkscrew
through the fabric draping my window
on its back rode the usual man
as I snuggled into my pillow

Drawn as I was to stare in its eyes
I felt myself always grow sleepy
and I’d fall into that magical world
of serpents and dreams so deeply
