CARTOGRAPHIA

All the spaces between the lines
I filled in

for you, as though you were a puzzle
to be solved again each morning
when

the map of your day proved too overwhelming,
or when you felt caught

in the cracks with no room to think
but knew the day must somehow change its shape.

You left the house and walked into darkness.
The roads are never busy but you turned left
when you should have turned right.
I showed you

the straight line of our future, how we could
walk to the end of the beach together.
But you became lost.
