Bird & Dog Fancier-in-Chief

The fear of the bird is not of the cat.
The corvid is black
and contains the missing R,
the nought,
the sought-out number.
They'll kill for less.
There's shattering
in the ears of the cats.
Hounds, strong-necked
(wooden, the kerb,
not a boot-step),
caged (mixed, close,
zoonotic potential).
He fancied them:
he coveted those pussies.
He Bibled against it.
Is that a bat I see before me?
