Argent Annulus

Her headless reflection cut off,
sharply decapitated at the base
maybe even sinking to the watery depths
that once happily reflected hazed sepia
sunshine. Now muddied, with blood brown
glaze on the surface.
Defiant she stands on dry land
like hematite
as soft water laps
like the slow incoming tide
on an estuary inlet.
And I imagine her crimson grimace
under expressionless scarlet clothed face –
Imprisoned by argent annulus
for all time in this place.
