Apart, Together

Across two metres, as allowed, we smile,
gesture thanks and greetings with hands
raised, palms pressed flat as if in prayer.
We make our isolated bodies speak volumes
in the absence of hugs and handshakes.
Different, as we all are, we have never
understood each other so well. We notice
love in erstwhile closed off faces, see souls
in frightened, hopeful eyes? All colours
reflect our changed weather, help us realise
going forwards, we must pull together
to save each other and our mother, Earth.
