Absence of Always

Getting what you always wanted doesn’t seem so appealing now, does it?

No one told you the risks.
No one read you the fine print.

You didn’t know that your great escape would rocket you right back to the home of your long standing friend:
    Isolation

You didn’t know that you would be so insignificant
  So tiny
  So
        Absolutely
                Forgettable

You have no direction anymore.

No stars to guide your way.
Their absence, you never noticed before, has always plagued you.

No one is left to

Hold your hand
  To show you the path

You always laughed when they said,
“You can’t have your cake and eat it too.”
                You aren’t laughing now

You are stuck. Sealed in the permanence of forever.

You always liked that one line from Dante.

Absence of Always

Are you thinking about it now?
  Do you understand now?

“Remember tonight for it is the beginning of always.”

Is it rolling around your mouth with the curdled frosting from your cake?
