- Chapter 11

In the Middle of the Night
Midnight clouds
reflect on still waters,
shape memories of misted mountains,
recall pictures of coconut palms.
Peaceful moons
and myriad stars shimmer,
multiply in the ripples
caused by creeping paws
of a huge tiger
or a tiny mouse.
Green frogs croak.
Mosquitos and cicadas buzz.
A barred owl hoots a mournful song.
The world drops away.
