Apparently it takes 100,000 insects to make a kilogram of cochineal which would indeed colour the fabric and shape the folds and track the shadow pathways. Stripes were always going to be optional and wide brimmed hats added that extra dimension. Beneath those folds I felt that the hidden box should have been squarely placed out front ,as it were. So compositionally, the dominant features shone through hiding a multitude of worries and small facial details.
