The Mechanics of Monotony

the slow beat of a drum is a
grate against the ear
boom. boom. boom.

creating an incessant treble
varying with intonation within
Boom. Boom. Boom.

ridiculously enclosed in a cage
with no frame of support
BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

an echo reverberates
and within, nothing without
boom.
         Boom.
                     BOOM.

so, when you ask me -
how do we break this monotony?

I say -
(boom)
why,
(Boom)
one bone
(BOOM)
at a time.

All the time.
