Break

Away from the petty rules
and dull routines
of everyday life;
the sticky tape and Blu Tac
that hold it all together.
The familiar maps,
time zones,
directions,
conversations
are cast out.
Excess baggage
weighing us
down.

It's time to forget time,
to see anew,
feel afresh,
navigate the unfamiliar,
explore the unusual.
There's a chance
to rewrite the story,
be someone else;
a little foolhardy,
cavalier.
An exotic adventurer
or pioneer
of some gentle frontier.

Break

Taking a break sounds
precarious,
dangerous,
analogous.
All the tiny, fragile pieces
of oneself are thrown
into the air on a
blanket of possibilities.
But as they descend
in a shower,
will they fall
in the right order?
Or even fall at all?
